Power and Purpose Productions Inc. (PPP Inc.) is 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, fully persuaded that all successful businesspeople, teachers and leaders share a common thread.  While it is true they often possess varying degrees of access to abundant resources, networking support and media attention the one thing they all possess is exceptional communication and oratory skills.  The goal of PPP Inc. is to use creative expression to help youth attending L.A. public schools obtain exceptional public speaking techniques and skills.

The major focus of PPP Inc. is to provide mentoring experiences to those students who, despite their focus and academic excellence, usually receive no assistance in tailoring their academic promise to fit their dreams and goals.  Oftentimes, honor students attending public schools lack the financial resources to gain exposure to classes, techniques, and cultural experiences that will enhance their futures by putting their current circumstances in perspective.  With the advent of the ‘MTV’ and ‘BET’ generation, creative expression is in greater demand than standard lectures, symposiums, and distribution of literature.  PPP Inc. will utilize creative approaches such as: role-playing, performance poetry, voice and movement, and creative writing to assist these promising young people in being the leaders of tomorrow.

Initially, public schools, local non-profit programs, and some home school and private school programs, will be contacted for participants in the PPP Inc. projects.  Groups of five (5) to twenty (20) individuals (depending on age group) will gather regularly for two (2) to four (4) hours.  These sessions will be conducted by various professionals in the creative arts who are donating their time. Volunteers will be recruited from the creative community with training and experience in dancing, drama, acting, pantomime, writing, poetry, and improvisation.

It is proposed that the sessions will occur in donated space, and at no cost to the participants.  The purpose of the workshops/group meetings will be to give a voice to those who have been identified as exceptional, outgoing or talented.  This voice will take the form of physical expression through dance and pantomime, orally through plays and dramatic presentations, and written through poetry and other creative writings to ultimately produce a confident orator with infinite potential.

We believe that feelings of hopelessness, depression and frustration often stem from an inability to effectively communicate our needs, wants and dreams. Our hope is that effective communication will decrease conflict, stagnation and mediocrity while increasing self-confidence, perseverance and superstar quality.

Participants will be encouraged to keep journals, to record their experiences and new information.  All written expressions and discoveries will remain in the domain of the individual and will not be used to fund the programs or the organization.  These sessions will not be viewed as group counseling in any way, shape or form and are not intended as a substitute for in-class instruction.  They are created solely, to allow the creative process to spark elements of focus and fearlessness.

It is proposed, that some of the activities will result in performances at various schools and youth programs to accentuate that necessity of effective communication.  Our intent is to communicate, and to hopefully educate, inspire, and motivate young people to reach their full potential, with power and purpose.
